I asked.  You answered and your answers blew me away.

If you receive my newsletter, [The Inspirer], you already know about the One Question Survey.  The word collage above includes some of your dreams.  If you missed it, you can still pop over & answer the question and share your dream.

When was the last time you thought about your dream?

My purpose with asking about your dreams was simply to encourage you to think about your dream.  I had one person tell me last week that I’m the only person they know that makes them think about their dreams.  The idea of not thinking about dreams is completely foreign to me.  I spend a great deal of time thinking about my dreams and my goals.  If someone gave me a dollar for every minute I spend dreaming, I’d be a bazillionaire right now.  It’s what I do.  It’s what I love.  It’s what I’m passionate about.  But what I love even more, is learning about your dreams and what lights you up.  Getting you to spend a few minutes thinking about your dreams and creating actionable goals to move you towards your dreams lights me up!

Sometimes putting just putting your dreams out there is enough to get the Universe conspiring on your behalf and shifts begin to happen.  Opportunities begin to show up.  But here’s the thing.  Nothing works unless you do.
In a recent interview with Marie Forleo, Mastin Kipp of The Daily Love was talking about his dream and how he created a vision board and put it away.  He chose to stay focused on his passion and kept doing his work. Everything on his vision board came to fruition, but it was because he stayed focused on serving and doing the work he was passionate about, not because he focused on the prize on his vision board.
Your dreams will not just happen.  You must put in the work.  You must take actionable steps.  Embrace vulnerability.  Face fears.  Ask for support.  Be open to opportunity.  Accept help.  Have Faith… And work your ass off.  Your dream deserves it and so do you.
You got this!

Looking for Inspiration?  Motivation?  Something to make you smile?  Hit up Pinterest!

I’ve spent the last 4 months getting serious about health and fitness.

I didn’t realize how much I had let myself go until

A: a member of my family didn’t recognize me at my grandmother’s funeral

B:  my size 14 pants were too snug to wear comfortably, and

C: I saw a photo of myself after the holidays and realized enough was enough.

I was the queen of excuses.

I don’t have time to workout.  After all, I have a full time job ya know! Plus two elementary aged kids with eleventy-billion extracurricular activities including travel softball, Odyssey of the Mind (My daughter’s team just qualified for Worlds and is headed to Iowa in a few weeks!! Woohoo!!) and two youth bowling leagues, a husband with a full time job, our adult bowling league, a house to keep (ok, so I’m not so good at that one, stop laughing already!), crafty girls nights, books to read, magazines to look at, naps to take, cupcakes to eat. Oh wait…

I was out of control with excuses. Until I wasn’t. One random day in January, I made a decision.

Then I did three things.

  1. I started Visioning.  I’m a firm believer in Visioning Success.  The phrase, “what you think about you bring about”… I believe it.  I pulled up Pinterest and created a “Visioning Fitness and Fierceness” board and started pinning.
  2. I got accountable for what I put in my mouth.  I joined Weight Watchers online.  They are all about accountability and it helps tremendously! And WW is super simple to follow and affordable.  Plus their iPhone tracker app rocks.  I don’t have to carry around a little food journal.  It’s all in my phone.
  3. I joined a gym – and began going regularly.  I talked to the trainers and I found a partner to help with accountability.  I actually joined two gyms.  One was strictly group classes, the other is a traditional gym.  Trying out different workout styles helped me find my groove.  Now that I found a workout schedule that works for me, I look forward to going.

The results?

I’ve lost almost 20 pounds so far.  I feel great.  I look a whole lot better.  I have more energy.  More importantly, I feel alive again.

Images like this one help me stay motived and inspired!
Thank you Pinterest!!

Friendship IS a powerful thing!

After getting nearly a thousand votes in the MeeGenius Author Challenge, Gwendolyn Conover’s book, Robot Party, won second runner up and will be published today! Said Wandy Hoh co-founder and CEO of MeeGenius inc: “MeeGenius loved Gwendolyn’s book. Out of the hundreds of submissions, Gwendolyn’s story about the importance of taking turns really stood out. We are really excited to publish this book and share it with our community of over one million users.”

Gwendolyn Conover is excited, too. “Sharing books and talking about stories have always been important parts of my relationship with my own kids,” she said, “and to think that kids and parents will read the words I wrote, will share the book together . . . that is an amazing feeling.”

So, what’s next for Gwendolyn? “I will continue to work daily, whether it’s sitting at the computer during one of those golden quiet hours, or scribbling down rhymes on gum wrappers as I sit in the pick-up line at school. I’ve recently finished another picture book, and am continuing work on a middle grade novel as well. I hope you’ll see more Gwendolyn Conover books out there soon!”

Mucho love and thanks,

Carmen

You are such an inspiration Gwendolyn!  I adore your writing. Can you tell us a little about yourself and the inspiration behind what you do?

Well, thanks, Carmen!  I write for kids, picture books through middle grade.  I guess I sort of identify with growing up in rural Kansas and living in a small town today.  I love that I can easily get to a place where there are absolutely no streetlights and sky is so black you can almost feel the depth at which the stars are scattered.

As a kid I spent a lot of time with my three brothers and many cousins, building fantastic hay forts and riding four-wheelers through the mud.  Probably we did a lot of stuff we shouldn’t have, like jump out the hay loft window or climb around on the roof of the chicken house.  But I think that kind of wide-open space (both in the landscape and in the freedom we enjoyed) fosters creativity.

We’re dying to know, what inspires you more than anything else in the whole world?

My kids!  When I am with them, really with them, that is to say, present with them, they are a vast source of inspiration and positive energy.  Often when I pay alert attention to my kids, whether we’re playing or just talking, there is an expansive sense of . . . I think the word would be aliveness, a place where things grow.  My family is really the foundation for everything I do.  My husband and kids, we love to be silly, tell stories, make up games.  And being with them has a steadying kind of effect that I need.

I love the way you describe aliveness – so pure.  I have to ask, what is your big dream?  Yes, the BIG one!  That really, super big, pee your pants when make it happen dream.  The one you feel a wee bit nervous saying out loud.  Yep, that one!

Well, publication is a big one.  I recently had the thrill of seeing one of my picture books illustrated and produced as an e-book for MeeGenius.com (more on that later!), and I would love to have that kind of experience again.  But beyond that, I think maybe the big dream is writing something that is truly meaningful.  Something that you read and it sort of stops you, holds your full attention, even just for a moment.  I think if I could do that, really grab you, whether I make you cry or make you laugh or make you think about something you’ve never thought of before–that would be the big one.

MeeGenius! Author Contest - Vote for Robot Party by Gwendolyn Conover

What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail and fear didn’t exist?

I’m not sure.  That is a very interesting question.  But I guess to some extent I think failure and fear can be my allies, though, of course, I don’t enjoy experiencing them.  Most of the time, if I’m open to it, if I let it come, failure brings me something new.  Maybe it’s a release, a let down that sort of frees me from a path that wasn’t working and sends the project in a new direction.  Or maybe it’s just a seed—some part of my idea that I can plant and grow again.

Wow, love your perspective!  What are you working on right now that you could use some support and encouragement on?

Right now I’m competing in an online writing contest at MeeGenius.com.  Though I was picked by the editor’s to enter the finals, the winner will be decided by online votes.  If you’re reading this and have thirty seconds to spare, please check it out!  You can visit  on MeeGenius.com to view my story, Robot Party, and click the button that says “like” to vote.  I am so grateful for your support!

Robot Party by Gwendolyn Conover

I am so excited for you!  What a fantastic opportunity!  So what advice, tips, resources, and overall good-to-know information would you offer someone just starting out with regards to finding passion & inspiration and digging in?

I think perhaps the most important thing may be to find that quiet place inside you.  This sounds like a paradox, but I believe spending some time not doing and not thinking is the best way to find true inspiration and fuel quality work.  This stems from my belief that, beyond all the thinking and doing we engage in, there is something greater.  You could say we are part of it, or it lives inside us, but you have to be quiet to feel it, connect with it, and let it flow through you.

If you’re not sure what I mean, or if you think that sounds weird, I don’t blame you.  I have a hard time describing or explaining it, but it’s one of the ideas I’ve taken from the writings of Eckhart Tolle, whose books have really been nothing short of life-changing for me.  If you’re interested in exploring his ideas, Stillness Speaks might be a good place to start.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

I’d like to thank you, Carmen Torbus!  You are an Agent of Artsiness, a Venture Virtuoso, a Master Motivator, an Inspiration Sensation!   Seriously, you rock.  Thank you so much for your interest and enthusiasm.

My pleasure Gwendolyn.  Thank you so much!!

And for those of you reading this… pop over to MeeGenius now and vote for Robot Party – Gwendolyn’s adorable story about the power of friendship.  Speaking of friendship, you can connect with Gwendolyn on her Facebook author page right here and on Twitter too.

Does this manifesto rock or what?

This manifesto sums up where my head’s been lately.  This stuff consumes me.  It’s all I can think about.  I’m a dreamer.  A big dreamer.  I have a dream vision for where I would like this site to go.  I’ve gone from artful blogger to non-blogger to business-ish coach blogger to non-blogger again.  Then there’s this fresh start, which I’m super excited about, yet a little hesitant to dive in.

What if it doesn’t work?  What if they don’t get it?  What if they think I’ve lost my marbles.  I could what if myself into craziness.  But instead, I’m just going to write and share and dream, believing with my whole heart that those who get it will come and those who don’t won’t… and that’s perfectly ok.  More than ok actually.  It’s exactly as it should be.

What I know for sure.

I love to hear people say they are inspired and I love the feeling of being inspired.  Being inspired moves me to action.  When I’m inspired, I write, I paint, I doodle and I dream.  When I’m inspired, I eat right and exercise.  When I’m inspired I am grateful and generous.  When I’m inspired, I feel like I can do anything I set my mind to do.  And I believe that’s what most of us big dreamers do when we’re inspired.

Mission Possible…

My mission with this new site is to inspire and be inspired.  I’m envisioning categories of Inspiring Creativity, Inspiring Courage, Inspiring Health, Inspiring Business and more.  I want to pull together people (super inspiring experts) and valuable resources to motivate and inspire you.  I dream of making this site a hub of inspiration for big dreamers like you.

I promise.

  • I promise to preach what moves me.
  • I promise to share the resources I come across that I believe to be valuable and inspiring.
  • I promise to seek inspiring experts to interview and guest post on the topics of Inspiring Creativity, Inspiring Business, Inspiring Courage, Inspiring Health, Inspiring Growth and much more.
  • I promise to keep you updated on the happenings on this site via The Inspirer and this blog. (You do get The Inspirer right?)
  • I promise to enthusiastically support people and endeavors that inspire me. (I am a cheerleader afterall!)

More soon!  (I promise.)

As you can tell, things look a little different around here. I’ve taken the plunge into WordPress and I’m learning as I go.  Hold me… and bear with me during the transition.   Exporting old posts from Squarespace was a challenge.  I was able to export the posts, but not the photos.  I plan to weed through old posts, saving what I love, tossing what I don’t, but this will take some time because photos will have to be added back one at a time.

I’m looking forward to a New Year full of new dreams and awesomeness!  Aren’t you?!

Christine Mason Miller’s latest book – Desire to Inspire: Using Creative Passion to Transform the World – is a collection of stories, exercises, images, quotes, and anecdotes from twenty extraordinary contributors, all sharing insights and experiences of how they create a meaningful life and, in turn, make a positive impact on the world. Each chapter discusses a different aspect of living a passion-fueled life, and this month Christine is offering a 60-Second Snapshot of each chapter as part of her Desire to Inspire Virtual Book Tour. Click here for all her online book tour dates!

Today Christine discusses Chapter 6 ~ The Ripple Effect of Inspiration

“Every step taken toward your most passionate,
meaningful life is the highest service you can
offer the world –
every single step.” ~Desire to Inspire

You are standing in a wide-open field, and it is dark. You light a candle. Suddenly you see five people around you – people you know. They walk up to you and are able to light their own candles with yours. Then those five people each notice five others around them, and all of those candles are lit from theirs. This goes on and on, until you see that this wide-open field is filled with people, who all now have brightly lit candles. The whole world is filled with light, and it draws more people in from beyond the edges of that field. The light keeps going, and traveling farther than anyone can see. This is the way inspiration works – it travels at the speed of light.

Leave a comment today through Tuesday, the 13th at noon EST and be entered to win one of the three wall art pieces pictured below!
